I started out writing a note on all the negative things that afflict our world. I wrote about potential problems that can hit us. I wrote about all the negative data that can possibly come out and had completed my note when I remembered that being negative does not help. Who needs another note about all the problems in the world which we all read about in newspapers and magazines in any case? I had read somewhere that if you think positive thoughts then only good things can happen to you or something to that effect. In this crazy world, one needs all the help one can get and I therefore decided to erase that note and write down only about things that I am grateful for.
1] I am alive and as far as I know not unhealthy. (I do not even want to do any tests and hear about any potential bad news.)
2] Still have a job. I do not know about the future but for the day, I have the company of colleagues, a friendly environment in the office and the capacity to buy friends a coffee at the end of the day. 3] I live in a relatively nice place. It is far from work which is a disadvantage but I do not want to be negative. So let me remember that it is a great place once I reach there.
4] I love food. You might ask me how is this a positive? Let me tell you that a person who loves food need not worry about how to brighten up a day. A person who can crave for the veg rolls at City Bakery in Worli or the Brune Maska from Yazdani at Fort and who does not mind spending time to get these is somebody who can find pleasure in the small things in life.
5] I enjoy watching good films and I enjoy even more watching again and again films that I have liked. If this is not a blessing then what else is? If there is no film that is worth watching currently, then there is always a good film available on DVD for a re-watch! A person who can watch Jab We Met (which is forever shown in some channel or the other) whenever he catches it while flipping channels, even if the film has long started, has never to worry about spending time.
