Nadal Speaks

I consider myself lucky to have watched the epic Australian Open final yesterday. Incredible match you will all agree. Both players played the game at a level which is difficult to sustain for a few minutes let alone the 5 hr 53 minutes it took for the winner to be decided. If there was any disappointment at all it was the post-match speeches. I was hoping for something personal from both players. Since that did not happen, I imagined what Nadal should have really said

"I guess I will be asking myself this question always: What could I have done different? Could I have done any better? I think I played the best I could and did absolutely everything I could. I ran down the balls, put them back into play and kept coming back into the rallies. I did not give him easy points or winners. I forced him to win by going for the lines. Which to his incredible credit, he did and pulled off a terrific win".

"Yes I am sad about not winning. But not devastated. Because I know I fought the good fight. I know I did well because we played for more than 5 and a half hours. You cannot have a game that long if the loser has not played well too. I say you saw a great game of tennis. You saw Djokovic hit incredible winners. You saw him hit deep and close to the baseline. You saw him kiss the lines with his shots. His winners were all glorious. Great credit to him".

"But to a small extent, some credit to me too because I played so well that the only way he could win was by going for the lines or the incredible shots or what we call the low percentage shots. There is no other way he could have won. I take great hope from this for the future. Those shots are called low percentage shots because you cannot pull them off all the time. I pray that next time he wont:)"

"Any sport, however great, cannot survive in these times without its audience and its sponsors. So thank you both. But today, just maybe, both got much much more than they had expected. Maybe even more than they can really expect. They got to see a great game of tennis and a great game of boxing between two unrelenting hitters - boxing specially in the last two sets. So two sports for the price of one! So maybe it is time for the sponsors and audience to thank us too:)"

If Nadal had pulled off that kind of speech extempore then it would have been a perfect end to a perfect match.                                               I forget myself sometimes. This is after all a note on the markets. So I remind you that I am long on the Nifty and will cut my long positions and go short if Nifty futures trades below 5147.
