Alternate Reality

The Nifty rallied today to come to a couple of percentage points of my stop and reverse levels. I will cut my short positions and go long if the Nifty trades above 5635 levels. I do hope that these levels do not get triggered... and if they do... then I hope that the Nifty continues to rally to 6000.

As soon as I wrote the word "hope" twice in two sentences, I knew that I was in trouble. Hope is a trader's worst enemy. At least it is mine. The moment I start hoping, I know that I am in trouble.

But then, while I have learnt this lesson the hard way, there are a lot of people who seem to be driven only by that four letter word! I mean what else can explain what Big Ben has been doing in the US.

I have been thinking for some time now about who Big Ben would be looking up to. You know what they say-- Know a guys heroes and you know all about the person* Alan Greenspan worshiped Ayn Rand. That explained a lot of things about him, didn't it?

Then it struck me. Big Ben was a Calvin and Hobbes fan! Notice how Calvin almost always lives in an Alternate Reality. He is sometimes Spaceman Spiff-the intrepid space traveller or the Caped Crusader or a Dinasour. Our own BIG B must be living in an Alternate Reality of his own. Where a disaster caused by excessive lending can be cured by--- you guessed right---even more excessive lending. A consumer indigestion caused by excessive consumer spending can be cured by--- even more excessive spending...An economy whose low savings rate was one of the major causes of the systemic problems facing the country can be saved by ---- ensuring that there is even less incentive to save.

How I wish I could live in such a Reality. Then all my problems would disappear. The problems of my laziness could be solved if I could just be more lazy. I could lose weight by eating more and exercising even less and finally for the piece de resistance--- I could earn a eight figure salary by---- you guessed right--- by working even lesser!

* Just in case you are interested... there is no real saying about knowing a person through his heroes... I just made it up because it sounded nice.

  1. Nice! Especially like the Calvin parallel. I do hope you know that your post of 'Dad' is up for reelection and your ratings aren't too good.
