You really did not think I will let you go so easily on the first day of the week did you? I do not have much to say other than the fact that I am short and will continue to "remain" short until 5079 is taken out by Nifty futures. But Traderman had a lot to say yesterday and I am putting it down below.
9:00 a.m Diary, I met Sonia for the first time for dinner yesterday night! I must admit that I am a tad disappointed. She is not as interesting as I thought she would be. I thought I was having an interesting discussion about trend-following and trading systems with her and all she had to tell me was something about broadening my mind and imbibing some culture. She suggested reading some classics. I said I have read all the classics from Benjamin Graham books to Alexander Elder to Michael Douglas and even Michael Covel. Did I detect a hint of rolling of her eyes then? I am not sure. Any way she said I might want to try some Ann Rand or Ayn Rand or something and a book written by her about some pen or something like that.
10:20 a.m. You know Diary, how I am always conscious of developing a well rounded personality so I decided to read that book. Apparently this book on the pen “Fountain Head” is in print even after fifty years of publication. So I thought, it must be a nice one and tried to read it. But as I read, I found that it was about an architect Howard Roark who is actually not really an architect because he is expelled from school for insubordination. Now I cannot be faulted for thinking that he is the villain of the story, can I? Then there is this nice Peter Keating who graduates top of his class and who gets the best job on offer. So he should be the hero right? But no, this lady has reversed their roles and made the expelled character the hero. I thought maybe he is the anti hero types as in certain Hindi films and will exact terrible revenge on the dean who expelled him. But no, he is nothing of that sort. He goes to work for another architect who is nothing but a bum and who can hardly support himself let alone this so called hero. I am not liking this one bit Dear Diary but as you know I am not one who gives up on something I have started. I am going to finish this even though I am now sure that I will not like it.
2:30 p.m Yaaawwwwnnnn must have dozed off. Cannot blame myself. It requires all my willpower to continue to read this book. Our villain, Peter Keating is doing better and better at his work and the so called hero is now working in a quarry. God I cannot believe this. Where is the heroism in this!!!
3:19 p.m I am going to puke. He likes this girl Domique Francon or maybe not. She likes him but acts like she hates him. She treats him badly. He rapes her. Finally they are in NewYork again and in love. I cannot take this anymore. Even my famed willpower fails against this kind of illogical writing. How could this book ever have been published?
4:00 p.m My first attempt at broadening my mind and imbibing culture is looking like an utter failure. Not due to any fault of mine mind you. I have been taught to think independently. Even though this book is supposed to be a masterpiece, in my humble opinion, it reveals the lack of original thinking among the masses. Some critic must have praised it and everybody else must have gone along with it and now finally nobody dare say anything against this masterpiece! But not me. After all, not for nothing am I known as the independent, iconoclastic, Traderman!!! Even then, Sonia has asked me to read it and so I better complete it. I will try and skip several pages and see whether it works for me.
8:30 p.m AYYO RAMA! This book is nothing else but trend following written in the form of a story. When the masses want traditional houses, Peter Keating is a success and Howard Roark who insists on modern architecture is a failure. When the taste of the masses change, then Peter Keating who fails to adapt to the change is a failure and Howard Roark is finally a success. This girl Dominique can finally proudly stand with Howard Roark. Until then she has married all other successful people like Peter Keating and Gail Wynand. To me, she seems like the ultimate Trend Follower. What a woman! But the book! What a dud! Such a fat book I had to read to understand Trend Following which I am already a master of.
9:30p.m I have to remember to tell Sonia about how Fountain Head is nothing but Trend Following! I am sure that she will be impressed!
10:00 p.m I better get back to my trading levels for tomorrow. This Fountain Head business has not allowed me to check my system at all.
10:05 p.m Did not need to check at all actually. My system will cut my short positions and go long only if Nifty futures cross 5079 which is so far off that it is unlikely to get hit on Monday. Another day of doing nothing awaits me! The best kind of day I say! Good night!
11:30 p.m. How could she like Fountain Head? Maybe she asked me to read it so that I can make her understand the implications of that book!
One of the key requirements for a Trend Follower is Patience :). Sometimes market just does not trend in one way or the other and hits our SL's constantly.
ReplyDeleteBy reading such Crap books :P you are enhancing your patience. When the market is not trending, you can at least say, well this is not as bad as that book :)
PS: Haven't read any of Ayn Rand books. Too big for my patience :D
