Long and Sweating

Surprisingly, the Europe situation seems to have been handled well by the market yesterday. Who could have actually predicted it yesterday morning? Similarly who can actually predict that things will not worsen by today evening? All this and more is leading to this incredible and mind numbing volatility in the markets. This would have been alright but for the fact that I am long on the Nifty since yesterday (4912 levels) and am sweating.'Long and sweating' and 'short and happy' are two of my favorite phrases these days.

Somehow, I am finding it easy to remain short in these times. Whenever my system forces me to go long, I can almost feel the stress it induces in me. I have to literally force myself to follow the system. I have to acknowledge that it stresses me out though. You ask me why? You ask me don't I think that all the negatives are in the price? For an answer I ask you "Have you seen the kind of politicians we get these days? These are career politicians. Do you think they have it in them to take the kind of steps that will cause great pain in the short term in order to solve some potential catastrophe in the future?"

If your answer is yes, politicians are capable of doing the right thing then congratulate yourself. You are clearly living in some other parallel Universe where everything happens the way it should. You probably do not even know the meaning of crime and environmental pollution probably happens only in science fiction in the Universe you inhabit. You are one of the few people who can be 'Long and Happy'. Finally, do let me know, if there is some way for people to pass through from my Universe to yours.

Despite the stress, I am long and will continue to remain long until 4775 is broken at which time I will cut my long, go short and be happy.
