Kung Fu Panda Again

I love Kung Fu Panda. Completely and totally. I must have watched it umpteen times and can still watch it some more. (I need to check whether there is a hint of Asperger syndrome somewhere) Be that as it may, I do think that this movie is not just for the kids and has something in it for the adults too. I mean what is not to like in a movie where the heroine (the Tigress) is fighting fit and can kick some serious a**e? Talking about a kickass heroine, Trinity in Matrix was not half bad too.

But then that is digressing. To come to the point, I think there is this one thing in that movie that is worth remembering. This movie is about the Dragon Scroll. The holder of the scroll will be privy to a secret so potent that he will become invincible in Kung Fu. Tai Lang the villain is desperate to get the scroll but Oogway the Turtle guru decides that our Panda Po is the Dragon Warrior and should have the scroll when he is ready to receive it.

We all know how it works. Master Shifu teaches Po Kung Fu, keeping in mind the unique qualities of the Panda-especially his love for food. When the teaching is in sync with what Po is, he works hard to justify his status as the Dragon Warrior. Finally when Master Shifu hands him the scroll, he opens it to only find that there is no secret inside. It is a blank sheet of paper. For a moment he wonders what this is all about. But since he is ready to receive the wisdom, it dawns on him that there is, after all, no SECRET out there. The Dragon Scroll was only given to those who were ready to see it and receive its meaning. The meaning that we can search outside all we want for the SECRET and we will not find it. The SECRET lies inside us.

This is also the key in trading and investing. Traders go after one system after another in search of the SECRET.. the Holy Grail that can only lead to winning trades. They are forever in search of the next new thing. After learning about the basics they move on to learning about candlesticks, point and figure charts, Elliot Wave analysis or the next new investment parameter like EBIDTA, EVA. If that was not enough, they are also forever reading magazines, newspapers, watching business channels (no, not on mute, unlike me) and in general spending 25 hours in a 24 hour day trying to ensure their success in trading.

You get the drift? There is no time to stand and stare. No time to look within ourself and find out what is it that stops us from getting the best out of the current system or the method that we are following. There is no SECRET method out there. Instead the key to achieving our potential as a trader is understanding ourself. We can succeed with any half decent system as long as it in sync with what we are as a person.

Either we mold our way of thinking to fit the systems requirement or find a system that fits with our way of looking at things. Once that is done, the rest is easy. Of course this then leads to another problem viz. how do we spend the rest of the time in the day when we do not need to keep searching outside to get the next best thing! I do it by writing and watching CNBC on mute. You decide what works for you!

BTW, I am long now on the Nifty from 4927 levels and will cut my long position and go short only below 4859. Hopefully that will not happen and we will continue to trade higher!
